BIRMINGHAM CITY YOUTH CONTINUE TO SHINE

In recording six wins from their last seven Appearances, Birmingham City’s U23 side have continued to match the hype around with impressive results every week.

The lads are currently sitting on top of the PDL 2 table and look set to remain there till the season closes.

It hasn’t been all roses for Steve Spooner’s squad. In October, they experienced one of the greatest defeat of the season when they lost to Barnsley 5-2. That humiliation kind of led to their current winning streak. Since losing that match, they have dispatched off 6 other teams with relative ease; from Leeds United to Sheffield Wednesday.

Only the game at Wolves has been the only dent in their performance ever since.

Steve Spooner’s feeder side has made playing an attack-minded, passing-oriented football their style and that has led to a lot of the young lads being comfortable with the ball at their feet no matter the position they might be playing.

Variants of this style which Originated from Netherlands but got perfected in Spain has been seen to be very effective in getting results in a specific way. Youngsters also tend to prefer it than the old-fashioned hit and run brawny kind of games.

The humiliation against Barnsley has however shown that the Birmingham side is far from perfecting their act. Any team that chooses the game of tiki taka has always been faced with the sad reality that they are going to expose their defense in order to effectively press their opponents.

Still, the winning streak they recorded against as many a team has shown that it is the current style of play Steve Spooner demands of his team that is favoring them the most.

Should the magic continue to work, nobody is really going to care about the occasional defeats.
